Michael Naft has had five years to resolve longstanding issues at the county-funded animal
shelter. He has done nothing and things are worse than ever: dog euthanasia at the shelter is
up 91% during his term. During Naft’s term, conditions became so deplorable that animal rights
groups sued the shelter, alleging widespread abuse and neglect of animals in public custody.
An audit found the shelter Naft is supposed to oversee lied to the public to discourage them
from dropping off stray animals.

Michael Naft campaigned in 2020, saying he would help resolve our community’s exploding
unsheltered population. Naft used it as a justification to raise sales tax. Four years later, there
are 2,000 additional homeless individuals and the street mortality rate is up 80%.

groceries, some of the highest costs for housing, car insurance, fuel, electricity, and groceries.
In spite of these unprecedented economic challenges, Naft voted to raise taxes at least three
times.
